November Sponsor Love

Hi all! I'm so excited to be sharing with you my large sponsor for November, Tara of Ewe Have Me In Stitches! Tara is a good friend of mine from school, so I'm extra-excited to be sharing her work today :)

1. How did you come up with your name 'Ewe Have Me In Stitches'? It's adorable!
Thank you! :) When I was creating my brand, I wanted something light, fun, and whimsical, because that's how I feel when I am designing and quilting. Ewe Have Me In Stitches was a name developed by my step-dad (who is always making corny jokes that have a play-on-words) and a logo designed by my artistic mother. My sister-in-law, a talented graphic designer, translated that sketch into an adorable logo, and her dedication to helping develop my brand really allowed me to get mystore off the ground.

2. Have you always been interested in quilting?
As a kid I was glued to my grandmother's vintage sewing machine and spent summers sewing pillows. (Seriously, my family got them for Christmas gifts every year!). A couple of years ago my mom got me a sewing machine for Christmas. I was really excited because I missed sewing and creating, but working full-time and being in graduate school kept me pretty busy, so the sewing machine gathered dust for a few months. My first quilt was a weekend project for a friend who had a new baby, and then I made one for my sister's birthday, and next thing I know, I made 10 more by Christmas (every member of my family got a quilt customized especially for them). My friends and family encouraged/insisted that I start an online store. I was a little terrified that no one would be interested in my quilts, they are my babies and I would be crushed if the store flopped, but it really took off and now I have a constant flow of custom orders!

3. Do you do any other crafts in your spare time?
Creating a quilt is VERY time consuming, and sometimes I just want the instant gratification of creating a project in one day! I make custom quilted tote bags, and have recently started making customized Christmas stockings. The funny thing is, I cannot sew clothing to save my life. Not for lack of trying either! I also love home improvement and home decor crafts, and I'm very proud to be a chick with her own power drill!

4. Any advice for someone who wants to start an online shop, but hasn't yet?
If you love your craft and you want to share it with others, than you are the perfect person to start a store! It can be intimidating, but here are some things I've learned (sometimes the hard way):
  1. Take great pictures; it makes all the difference when your listing is in on a page with 20 others
  2. Keep good financial records; when your business takes off you'll be grateful
  3. Don't over-think it! sell what you love and you'll always find it fun and gratifying
5. Lastly...what is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
I like chocolate inside chocolate topped with chocolate. Also... I like chocolate :)

And here is some love for my other sponsors!
